THE TEXAS STAR

Pam tells me she wants to get a cap with a Texas star on it. We have been Oregonians, Pennsylvanians, Washingtonians, Tennesseans, and this is our new day. We have met delightful, friendly, sincere people here in Abilene. Pam has said, “We’ve found our tribe.”

As well a connecting with our friends the Bellas and the Israel Prayer Mission, and with our friends the Poormans and Iris Abilene, we are meeting precious Saints from various churches and people in the community. We have connected with a community prayer group and with some of the local pastors. New names are going onto our prayer board!

Iris Abilene is sending a container of treasures to Mozambique with the help of Global Samaritan, which is based here. Along with the students from the Adventures in Mission program at Camp Barkeley Pam and I got to assist in packing pallets with things like computers, TV’s, optical and dental equipment, stuff animals, cloths and solar lighting. Too much fun, and at the same time, very meaningful!

Pam and I receive a fortifying prophetic word from Stacey Campbell as she and her husband were in town as part of the Iris Abilene board and ministered at a local church. To hear Stacey’s wonderful message on the prophetic ministry (starting at about 43 minutes) and her prophecy to Pam and I (starting at about 1:34) you can go to  http://www.beltway.org/media/item/encounter-night-with-stacey-campbell/

CAMP BARKLEY/IRIS MINISTRIES

[The photos are of Steve taking in the view from Camp Barkley, our bunkhouse, the overgrown rifle range and of Pam at the Mess.]

There are interesting twists and turns in life. The housing we anticipated having in Abilene was given to another missionary couple while we were traveling to Texas. Like Elijah, a 90 year old widow met our needs by opening a room to us and to our dogs Tucker and Jack. We felt honored to share the home of a woman that is a strong intercessor. We had great fellowship and a roof over our head but it could not be permanent.

A week ago we visited with Norman and Angel Poorman who we met in Israel in 2012. They own 1000 acres that were formerly part of the WWII Camp Barkley. We got a tour of the property on the high back seats of a Safari Jeep. What a powerful experience to learn of so many miracles that lead to the purchase of the property! Dreams and visions and audible voices have given details for the process of “recommissioning” the property to raise up soldiers for Jesus! They are linking with Iris Ministries, Bethel Church and the Israel Prayer Mission.

Most deeply impressive was learning that soldiers from Camp Barkley were in Germany to liberate Jews from the Nazi death camps! A book could be written, should be written, on the miracles that have been part of the reactivation of this Camp. We trust that the Camp may equip others to be part of Yeshua’s war of liberation for the Jewish people and all the Nations.

The Poormans graciously have allowed us to stay at one of the bunk houses as we continue our process of settling here. We have enjoyed encouraging the students who are in the housing next to us.

We are meeting new people and visiting churches. We are learning the lay of the land and doing the many practical things that are part of a move. Leonardo and I are working on a book on overcoming strongholds that prevent Israeli Jews from embracing Yeshua. The material will be used in future workshops.

Your prayers are certainly welcome to give us grace and guidance for this exciting and often tiring transition.

WANDERING INTO HIS PERFECT WILL

Many have joked that for forty years Moses’ wife nagged him to pull over for directions. Father Abraham may have also been challenged by Sarah to pull into a gas station to get steered right. Many others in scripture found themselves wandering – wandering into the perfect will of God.

There are times when we truly seek to follow God but are unsure of our course. In those moments of perplexity, and seeking, we trust must more in the capacity of God to guide us than our ability to make out the map.

Sometimes the leading of the Holy Spirit looks like wandering. Perhaps the time of temptation in the wilderness felt to Jesus more like confusion than being “led by the Spirit in the desert” (Luke 4:1).

In every believer’s life there are wanderings. Patriarchs were nomadic but they were on track.

If your spiritual GPS doesn’t seem to be getting a signal today be filled with peace. Yes, keep asking and believing for guidance, but know the sense of wandering is part of the curriculum for those proven by the Lord!

Some wandered in desert wastelands,

finding no way to a city where they could settle.

They were hungry and thirsty,

and their lives ebbed away.

Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble,

and he delivered them from their distress.

He led them by a straight way

to a city where they could settle.

Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love

and his wonderful deeds for men,

for he satisfies the thirsty

and fills the hungry with good things.  Ps 107:4-9 (NIV)

LIGHT SHINES IN DARKNESS

Astronomers know the best time to star-gaze is at night.  Painters know darkness provides contrast for the light. Light shining in darkness is a theme of the prophet Isaiah. “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned” (Isaiah  9:2).

If you’ve traveled much by air you’ve probably taken off in a dark, cloudy environment, broken the canopy of clouds and been met by radiant light.  I love those experiences!  They remind me that whatever the darkness, there is Light unwavering above it all.

“The glory of the Lord shone all around them.”  Those shepherds must have looked like deer trapped in a car’s headlights.  One does not plan for a multitude of heavenly angels irradiating the darkened pasture.

In Christ that which is Above-It-All comes down to us!  Later, the baby, grown to be a man, declares, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world”  (John 6:51).

The next time He comes more than a few shepherds will witness it. “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first”  (1Thes 4:16).

“Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble….”

LOOKING BACK ON THE SECOND COMING

Do you think the second coming of Jesus Christ will be celebrated annually, perhaps like Christmas?

We might even look backwards on our Lord’s second coming and call it Christmas #2 since the name Christmas, a Mass in honor of Christ, may be used generically.

Jesus gloriously broke the bonds of death about AD 31. Wouldn’t it be “interesting” if He returned in 2029, two thousand years after his ascension? The Sabbath Millennia? Of course He may come before or after. Just thinking – and praying.

A multitude of heavenly hosts heralded His first coming. Apparently they will be there for the round two.

The last prayer of the church is the prayer of a pining bride; “Even so, come Lord Jesus.”  Pam and I have kept our wedding photos. Will we be pulling out the photos annually as we remember the Great Day of the Lord, the Wedding of the Lamb?

Just Wondering

Then the angel said to me,

“Write: ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!'”

And he added, “These are the true words of God” (Rev 19:9).

Comment Here:

LIGHTEN UP

“Warning: Do not overburden thy camel with overly ponderous weights lest thou pushest beyond the engineering specifications voiding your warranty and causing breakdown of your beast” (Owner’s manual).

We don’t want to overload Clyde so we have given away much of our belongings. Men from Life Changers Outreach, an awesome ministry bringing new life in Jesus to those struggling with addictions, loaded up trucks with our donations. A dear friend in touch with some who have great need filled boxes from our pantry.  We hope those that received rejoice with the joy we feel in lightening up.

The Bible says a lot about “Stuff.” Many passages describe stuff as a blessing. The pry bar, bread maker, jewelry and board games are a blessing! If you have stuff count yourself blessed.

The Bible also says that stuff, and our attitudes about stuff, can be distractions or even idols, objects of worship preventing us from entering The Kingdom of Christ.

You will never see racers in the 100 or the marathon packing stuff. We are lightening up because in this season of our lives being overly “blessed” with stuff will prevent us from running a good race.

If you are in a season where you are in need of stuff may your prayers be heard! If you are in a season for getting mobile, liquid and light may you have the grace to say goodbye to stuff.

“Also regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt is yours” (Gen 45:20).

MOVING TO ABILENE, TX

We have a new place to set off for: Abilene, TX! Another season, another adventure! We really don’t anticipate a lot of gun fighting. Our Plan is to have the moving van loaded and pull out of Sevierville, TN on December 18th.

Our friends, Leonardo and Una Bella, with whom we have ministered in Israel, live in Abilene. We will continue to partner with them and the Israel Prayer Mission. As the Lord wills we may travel, nationally and internationally, as well as minister in Israel with the Bellas.

We also believe meaningful opportunities for work and ministry will open in Abilene with other precious saints. More as things develop.

Your prayers will be appreciated as we toss, sell, save and package things for our move.

Then Abraham returned to his servants, and they set off together for Beersheba.

UNRESERVED RESOLVE

“We will not accept into membership anyone with any reservations whatsoever.  We will not accept into our membership anyone unless he is an active, disciplined, working member in one of our organizations.”

The words are from Vladamir Lenin, the revolutionary founder of the Communist Party.

Lenin rejected, the sentimentalist, the fair weather warrior and the unresolved as candidates for his revolution.  He sought people willing to live and die for the communist vision.

Jesus Christ also rejected people that claimed they wished to follow. Those who were vacillating, or unwilling to pay the price were left behind.  Jesus sobered up some would-be followers reminding them that they would be bunking on the dirt and that family loyalties must not prevent whole hearted devotion.

Jesus spoke stark words: “anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.”  (Matt 10:38)

If you are willing to pay the price you can be part of something that truly changes the world.

WORTH THE PAIN

LISTEN TO THIS BLOG HERE!

At a Christian business conference in Charlotte, NC we heard the amazing story of a woman from North Korea who was in prison 20 years for her faith. She wore light clothing in the winter while the guards were bundled up. She would pray fervently and have third heaven experiences, and stay warm.

She was taken to the firing squad and asked if she had one last request. She asked to sing, and sang, “Amazing Grace.” While blindfolded she heard the executioner choke up, unable to say, “Fire!” She was marched back into detention. On a second occasion the same firing squad scenario repeated itself.

While she was in prison and having heavenly experiences she heard voices praying for North Koreans and she recognized the voices as English and from the West. She knew as she listened to the voices that she would go to America.

She was released and ended up in China, working for the government. Her job was to arrange for speakers to come and lecture at colleges and before government officials.

She met Lance Walnau in America while representing the Chinese government. They wanted a Christian intellectual to speak to government leadership! The Chinese know that Christians will become 30% of the population by 2030. They can handle the positive values of Christianity but don’t want weird cults or anti-government activities. It is a miracle that they are willing to listen to perspectives from Christians from the West!

The woman from North Korea, after all her birth pangs, is bearing fruit that will bring greater openness to the Lord Jesus in nations that have been closed!!!

You may see amazing stories of devout followers of Jesus in North Korea and of ways that the Gospel is being shared there. You may want to invest in a ministry sharing the good news in that nation.  http://www.seoulusa.org/100-days-videos/

COLLIDING WITH THE FUTURE

It was my “get-er-done” day and the Parkway was insane. So like any good East Tennessee holler dweller I used the back roads to get to my hair appointment and varied destinations.

My husband and I have been working like little squirrels putting up wood in the wood shed, cleaning up piles of limbs and brush, buttoning up the place for winter. It’s been so pleasant working outside with the beautiful leaves slowly dropping from the trees.

I drove out after our morning prayer and chores. It had been dry for a couple weeks but had rained the night before.

The ride through Little Valley, Waldens Creek and Goose Gap was lovely. Coming down a long curvy decline I rounded an outside curve and headed into a tight inside curve when the truck began to slide on the wet leaves. I called out “Jesus” and tried to steer away from crossing the line.

“BAM!” A white four door was just turning up that same double curve. The truck hit them in the driver’s door panel and pushed them into the ditch, the reaction of the collision pushed the truck back into the correct lane.

I looked around, saw no other traffic, put on the flashers and headed over to see about the other car and folks.

A young man looked up at me stunned and began to pull himself out of the broken window.  I asked, “Are you hurt?” He shook his head “No”, and I turned to directing traffic.

At the right time I moved the truck off the road and asked the accident questions. I was clear headed and felt no anxiety or usual shakiness that can happen after a traumatic accident.

The driver had one passenger with him. They were not talking but milling around. Finally it came out, the driver was driving with a suspended license and the car had no insurance. They talked about switching, “who was driving.”

Ok I’m a woman, alone waiting for the police and they want to pull something shady. I just nodded and suggested they keep talking it through. I was quietly thanking Jesus no one was hurt and that He had kept me.

When the officer arrived, he immediately went to the two men and began asking questions. I noticed his tone was a bit “critical parent.” I wondered if he knew these boys.

It all came out. Not only was the driver driving with a suspended license and no insurance; the license plate on the vehicle did not match the vehicle.

I had my paperwork in hand and assured the officer I was not hurt. He was very pleasant but let me know I was at fault. I agreed with him, I had crossed the line into oncoming traffic! He told me there had been two other accidents at that spot that morning.

While the officer was writing up the report I looked over at the young man, now sitting on the ground, pale and smoking a cigarette. I went over and asked him, “Do you go to church?”  He shook his head “no” and said, “I’m going to jail.” He had a wife and two children. Obviously he was not making the best decisions.

I asked if I could pray for him. He agreed and I put my hand on his shoulder and prayed.

Then I told him, “When you stand before the judge, tell him you want to go to Life Changers Outreach. They will help you start making the right choices and help you become the man you want to be inside.” He looked me in the eye and said, “OK.”

The wreckers had strapped up our vehicles and were ready to roll. We said, “Good bye.”  He thanked me and said he was sorry. I said the same. I reminded him of the opportunity that may be before him and to remember what I had said.

I will miss that sweet truck and the fun we have had in it, but I’m forever grateful to my God who can turn even a bad situation into an opportunity for His Glory to shine. I kept thinking, I feel so expectant that something good is coming out of this. I could only Praise Him!
