The eye is a miraculous organ. With it we can reach across the room and “grab” a chair or coffee pot. A telescope extends our grasp and makes things that seem tiny in the distance to look bigger. The microscope on the other hand makes tiny things seem bigger than they really are.
When the Psalmist says, “O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together” (Ps 34:3 KJV) he is not saying, “Let’s look in the microscope and make our tiny god look big.” He is saying, “Let’s get out our telescopes and understand how gigantic God and His purposes really are.
The Lord Jesus promised us in John 16:13, “when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
For a modest price of spending time in the Word and Spirit our vision of the future can become telescopic! We perceive the greatness of God, the things He has planned for us and how we fit in His universe.
Here is a prayer: “Heavenly Father, we need long distance vision as well as near! Give us Your perspective glass so we may magnify Your greatness!
