The genie offered only three wishes. The Wonderful Jesus encourages us to ask, and ask big, endlessly! But what if you could ask only one thing of our magnificent Father? Think it over. What would it be?
Solomon made it wisdom. Some of us might say, “Wish I had thought of that.” But what is your one request?
For me, the ultimate request realized is beholding the face of Jesus! I desire to see Him as He really is, and not just as I have imagined Him! This desire is put in other words.
For Moses it was, “Show me Your glory!”
For Elisha it was a double potion of Elijah’s experience with God
For David it was to dwell in God’s house, to see His beauty and relish the reflections.
Paul’s quest and request was to fully and intimately know Jesus Christ
The Doctor may know things about my wife Pam I don’t, such as her blood pressure, heart rate and blood chemistry. But I know Pam in far deeper ways!
I know about Jesus from studying the bible, but oh, to know Him person to person, face to face! Having information about Jesus is not nearly as satisfying as having relationship with Him! Information about Jesus is like embracing shadows. Having Jesus experientially is desire realized, a tree of life!
The right now, senses-vibrantly-awake, touch-hear-see companionship of Jesus satisfies every other need! When we have lucid, fully awake companionship with Him we possess all things! He comes with everything else we might ask for: wisdom, comfort, belonging, material provisions, guidance, friendship, and power – meeting our needs and desires.
You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand. (Ps 16:11)
Seeing Jesus’ face at his return is the climax of the Bride’s desire.
But even at this instant He offers, “Seek My face.” (Ps 27:8)
It tops the prayer list.
