LEVERAGING CRIMSON

Beautiful, bright, bold and brilliant

Beautiful, bright, bold and brilliant

The crimson blood of Jesus!

The blood of Jesus is against you, devil!

Satan screams and freaks

We rejoice and exult!

Jail break, jail break!

Free from Satan’s rickety cage

We were trapped, but God helped

We were given power!

By the Father’s grace, we kicked though the wall

We butted the wall and broke through!

Brilliant and dazzling blood of Jesus!

We fought and persevered

We broke through!

Fear not little flock

We, His sheep, are The Lion’s pride

Hear the lambs roar!

We roar like The Lion!

Lamb’s blood sprinkled upon us!

Lambs blood covers guilt, sin and shame

Is that the blood of Jesus against you, devil?

Must you run so soon?

Spattered with the blood of Jesus!

Better run you liar

Better run you murderer

Better run you thief

Watch the accuser run!

Throw her down! Throw Jezebel down!

Satan fell from heaven, ouch! From heaven, ouch!

Oh Jezzy, is that your icky blood spattered on the wall?

Bad hair day for Luci

Poor writhing snake. Off with her head!

Ding dong! The wicked witch is dead!

The bell tolls for Thee

Ding dong! The wicked witch is – ha, ha, ha – so toasted!

Flames of fire!

Who burned the bacon?

Jesus!  He burns the bacon

Turn the oven to broil!

Getting strong now!

Push ‘em back, push ‘em back, way back!

We will, we will, rock you!

You’re under our feet!

The captives felt the earth quake

The captives had a jail break

Children of the ovens now free

From mass graves, raised to liberty!

Look at all the pirate’s treasure

Plunder all the pirate’s treasure

Stolen things recovered

Our lives redeemed!

Beautiful, bright, bold and brilliant

Beautiful, bright, bold and brilliant

The crimson blood of Jesus!

A WHIP OR A MOP?

Some caption the image as “Jesus driving out the money changers.”

Others label the picture as “Jesus cleansing the temple.”

I don’t think Jesus’ goal was to disrupt as much as put things in order. Some paint an image of a roaring, ravaging lion tearing up bad guys. The image which seems closer is a mother bear alarmed for her cubs, willing to savage the threats, for her cubs’ safety. Jesus’ goal was not to gain a reputation as an iconoclast and gain a good photo op, but to re-create purity and peace in The House of Prayer.

Garbage being thrown into a can may look like disruption to those accustomed to it cluttering floors and countertops. If cleaning out garbage is disruption, may every place and every heart be thoroughly disrupted!

Fishermen had their industry disrupted. Routines out the window!

Tables topsy-turvy. Religious notions, traditions and rules which subverted the Ancient Ways, took a lashing – for a cleansing

Demons lost their homes.

Doctors’ predicable income dried up

Funeral home directors lost business

When Jesus shows up with His scourge and mop He is into deep cleaning. I feel he is asking deep cleansing questions of His Church today. What answers shall we give him?

“My house is meant to be a house of prayer. Why do you do everything but?”

“Why do you serve bits of crackers and juice in demitasse cups and call it communion?”

“Why do you work so hard to keep the 99 and not search for the lost?”

“How can you love one another when you separate from one another?”

“Why do you spend money on X, Y and Z, but not on 1, 2 and 3?”

“Why do adults get such energy and the children get the scraps?”

Jesus’ end goal is not to lay on whipping stings of shame and humiliation, but to challenge us to our roots, that we may regain our health, vitality and fellowship with Him! By responding positively to these questions, we will see Jesus as less of a disrupter, and more as the mother bear giving us a good scrubbing behind the ears!

“Lashes and wounds purge away evil,

and beatings cleanse the innermost parts.” Prov 20:30

PIZZA DREAMS!

I was talking to a friend today who said they were dreaming, a lot!

I asked, “Do you record your dreams?”

She answered, “No, because they’re just about things I’ve been doing with my baby.”

I believe we should be mindful of all our dreams, even pizza dreams!

Funny how we discount dreams because they are outlandish, weird and bazaar.

We also discount dreams which are ordinary and “every-day.”

What if I decided to ignore dreams where people were speaking English, because that is my every-day language? What if I decided to ignore dreams with people I know, because they have an every-day place in my life?

Certainly, dreams can come from too much pizza. In fact, this reality is found in the bible.

“…a dream comes when there are many cares….”  Ecc. 5:3

Things which occupy our thoughts during the day, often do the same at night.

This is the gift of God.

Be aware, for the night may show the every-day in a new “light.”

I’ve had dreams at night where I was exhausted, and our dog Tucker was part of the action. It was a reflection of the day. I was working hard, stressed too much, and it was showing up in dreams. Tucker was there as an emblem. I was “tuckered” out!

I’ve had undeniable “God” dreams. I’ve also had wrestlings with real demonic powers in the night.

But many of my dreams are from the Pizza genre.  Still, if I take time to write them down, I get lessons, like:

Don’t eat a lot of pizza before going to bed.

Don’t overstress about things. Get your rest!

Don’t bite off more than you can chew.

Every night before I go to sleep I set my pen and paper at the head of the bed. I pray, “Lord, in the night with dreams, and in the day with visions!” The Lord has answered that prayer thousands of times, often with pizza dreams.

Don’t ignore them!

FORTY YEARS!

As Pam and I looked at the picture of those kids we both said we would like to sit them down and give them a good talking to! O, the counsel we would furnish, and the exhortations we would level!

What an education we have received. Wouldn’t it be nice to start all over with the accumulated experience and wisdom of four decades? Still, we capitalize on what we have, and we believe it is more than a fluffy word of inspiration, but sober and wonderful truth – “The Best is Yet to Come!”

We are determined to press on, and cross over, into promised lands –  rejoicing in our battles, our plantings and buildings, as we capitalize on every past good and hard experience, and upon the present grace and favor of our Lord Jesus Christ today!

I don’t have the words to express the deep appreciation, love and respect I feel for my lover, counselor and precious friend. So many travels, travails and delights are compressed into forty anniversaries!

Thanks to so many who have intersected with our lives and made our lives richer along the way! Bless each one as you press on for the high Goal!

But wait; there’s more!

KINGDOM PREPOSTEROUSNESS, WITH APOLOGIES

Imagine this preposterous dialogue with Jesus.

Jesus: There has been a change of plans. We are not bringing heaven to earth.

Saints: But Lord, we have prayed 2000 years for heaven to prevail upon the earth!

Jesus: It was too big a project to tackle. The sinfulness of men and demons is too great.

Saints: What are we going to do?

Jesus: We had planned for the whole earth to be filled with the knowledge of the glory of God and that all the nations would become my disciples. But it just seems too difficult.

Saints: But Lord, what now?

Jesus: We are moving to plan B.

Saints: Plan B?

Jesus: Heaven on earth is too much for us to pull off. We are going to evacuate the earth and all of us will go to live in heaven.

Saints: Lord, but what about the earth? What will become of it?

Jesus:  We are aborting our plans to redeem the earth. We will let the earth rot and rust.

Please excuse me for presenting such an imbecilic and inane dialogue! Nothing could be farther from the truth! What our Lord begins, He finishes! What our Lord promises, He fulfills and brings to completion!

God is not human, that he should lie,
not a human being, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill?   Numbers 23:19

We will get the answer to our persistent 2000-year-old prayer, “Your Kingdom come on our planet, just as it prevails in the highest heaven!” Jesus did not ask us to pray for his Kingdom on earth in vain. He did not ask us to be ambassadors, emissaries, and conduits of Heaven to terminate in frustration. The purposes and delights of the Mighty One, the Creator of heaven and earth will be thoroughly realized. He is the Beginning and He is the End! What our Lord begins, He completes!

Our God, who conceived the earth, its plants and creatures, knows how to bring the seed to maturity and fruit! Even with the stumbles and corruptions of we children of Adam, His pleasures will be realized. The squeaking of men and demons will not inhibit fulfillment, but will be found lending themselves to the glory of God. Pharaoh’s resistance only made God’s power more evident!

Is the Kingdom on earth an impossible dream? Why is it that within our hearts there is such a yearning for some kind of brave new world, a new world order, Shangri-La, paradise, Utopia –  garden of Eden? What did Solomon mean when he said, “He has put eternity in their hearts”? There is a longing for something enduring and perfect in every human heart; a higher, refined, transcendent place of existence.

Jesus coached us to Pray, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done one earth.”

It means the first commission given mankind is not scrapped, tabled, or aborted.

Our super-progenitors, Adam and Eve, were not just simply given a garden to enjoy, and vegetation to savor. They were given a mission, a task, a grand project! “God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number: fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.’”   Gen 1:28

The plan was to expand the garden! As Adam and Eve’s generations multiplied the garden was to be expanded until their progressive generations cultivated the whole planet into a garden paradise.  The desire of God was to see the entire earth, every square inch saturated in abundance, nurtured into lush fruitfulness. They were to cultivate and expand the awareness and knowledge of the glory of God!

As the garden was expanded, the grapes vine was to be trained to climb the trellis, the ox was to be trained to pull the plow, and the children were to be trained to live in awareness of the Lord’s holy companionship, to the uttermost boundaries!

The original great commission seemed to bite the dust, as Adam and Eve and their generations, on by one, did the same.

We were created from dust.

We return to dust.

But the Redeemer has a plan

To restore us from the dust again,

So, we may complete the first great commission.

BACK ON TASK!

ITS PLACE REMEMBERS IT NO MORE

LISTEN TO THIS BLOG HERE!

The life of mortals is like grass,

they flourish like a flower of the field;

the wind blows over it and it is gone,

and its place remembers it no more.Ps 103:15-16

The picture is of the Falkner High School’s baseball team. Grandpa Johnson is sitting on the floor, and his good friend Hugh Bedient is sitting in the middle. As you recall, Leslie as well as Hugh did well at baseball. Wait, don’t you remember?

If I asked today’s students and staff, “Do you remember Leslie Johnson?” they might roll back their eyes and search the memory banks. “Sorry, I don’t remember him.”

“O come on! Everyone knew Leslie! The picture doesn’t capture it but most of the time he was wearing a smile. He was the fun-loving guy everyone liked to be near. Come on, think about it! Leslie was captain of all his sports teams. A really friendly guy! He was especially good at baseball. He couldn’t play baseball at the University of Pennsylvania because he played semi-pro after high school.”

“Let me think…. When did he graduate?”

“Oh, about 113 years ago.”

In time the slightest recollections are gone.

It may take a few generations but in time the rich, the beautiful, the villain and virtuous are forgotten.

The names, dates, and places may be studied by a few history students,

But in time historians lose interest as new history supplants the old.

But our lot is not found in an overgrown, forgotten grave!

Our Lot is with the LORD!

In fact, our loving Father has perfect recall! We are remembered!

Job gives us the first biblical reference to the resurrection of the dead in a prayer.

“If only you would hide me in the grave

and conceal me till your anger has passed!

If only you would set me a time

and then remember me!

If someone dies, will they live again?

All the days of my hard service

I will wait for my renewal to come.

You will call and I will answer you;

you will long for the creature your hands have made.

Surely then you will count my steps

but not keep track of my sin.

My offenses will be sealed up in a bag;

you will cover over my sin.  (Job 14:13-17)

You, my friend, are remembered!

MY NEW BEST FRIEND

He seemed to have a snarl. He did not look friendly, but rather intimidating.

I could have avoided him. Instead I decided to buck up my courage,

let my guard down, and talk with him.

As I approached, I coached myself; “This could be your new best friend.”

Then I gave a cheerful, “Hello!”

It might have worked otherwise, but the man was approachable.

In fact, our chatting ended with the beginnings of friendship.

“Great to meet you!” “Likewise!”

When I am about to meet someone for the first time

I endeavor to activate important realities in my consciousness.

O, my Dear God, this is a creature made in your very image!

What a unique and precious work!

Help me to value this person as You do!

This person is certainly my superior in many ways.

I’m confident I will learn much from them!

All people are fascinating.

What makes this person amazing?

This person could become my new best friend!

There are many titles of distinction but one of the grandest is “Friend.”

It’s sweet to me when I hear Jesus address a person as,“ Friend.”

Jesus prized people dearly. He was awake to their worth!

What was Jesus was thinking about, and anticipating, as He began a conversation?

Take up your courage, take a risk, and discover the marvel of your new best friend!

Listen to The Tangible River, Episode 2, from Riverfront Property!

If I were to prophesy a river erupting from under the back door of your neighborhood beauty parlor, and then, divide into multiple rivers, what would you think? And if you should see it come to happen, with your own eyes, what would you do?

Five prophets tell of a dynamic river emerging from the city of Jerusalem!!!

Other prophets complement the theme!

I would be pleased and surprised to discover one Christian out of a hundred who is aware of this forth-coming phenomena, and has taken a few moments to ponder it. If I have my way, every believer in Christ will come to understand, and make preparations, for this River’s fresh genesis!

“Freely you have received; Freely give!”  (Matt 10:8)

Have a listen, freely, to Episode 2, The Tangible River, and let me know what you think!

In fact…, leave the book a review at Amazon below. This will help the message gain a hearing!

LEND ME YOUR EYES

My world is enlarged through the beautiful, brown eyes of my wife. She is able to share with me perspectives and sights I would otherwise have sightlessly missed.

She was raised in Southeastern Oregon, in the high desert by a wildlife biologist. Her Dad often took her on drives and walks while he was doing game counts. He taught her to see. Often driving or walking with only the sound of the wind he would point and she was supposed to figure out what he was pointing at. Pam has an innate alertness and power to reach out with her eyes and perceive things, invisible to others. She took her natural genius for perception and developed it as one of her “Super Powers.”

When we would visit her old stomping grounds I would be impressed with the wide vistas, but the greys and brown of the desert were plain and drab to me. Pam on the other hand would be delighted to see all the shades, the angles of the craggy outcroppings, the orange and yellow lichen, the velvet texture of the Ponderosa pine, the quaking aspen and the scrubby juniper She would point out to me the rabbit brush and its shiny leaves compared to the tumble weeds ghost-like shadows.

While we drive the lonely roads, I have a vague, dull sense that there is a world about us, but Pam sees it all! Her telescopic eyes see the elk standing like a statue a half mile away, camouflaged into the hillside, and the doe and fawn bedded down under the juniper’s shadow. I see the hill.

She was by far the first to point out to the children the herd of deer silently moving away from our approach, the bald eagle soaring above the river, the young bobcat statue still, and other contours of the land.

I was born short-sighted. Pam was definitely born long-sighted, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t see things up close. Pam is able to see the  wee little horny toad skitter across the sand, lizards sun bathing lazily on the rock and the snake sliding quietly around the bush. None of these register in my senses.

From time to time I think of how Jesus said, “If you have eyes, use them to perceive. If you have ears, use them to comprehend.” My wife has exercised those senses as the athlete trains their muscles.

Having Pam with me rouses me from my bland, blinded stupor – reminding me there are things all about me to be discovered, realized, appreciated and wondered in. She has tutored me in the obvious, where the obvious beforehand was unreachable.

One of the greatest benefits of friendship is the gift of perspective. It pleases me when a friend says, “This is how I see it.”

Where we are dull friends point their floodlamps. When we see only monochrome they bring out the crayons and show us the colors. They brighten our lives by revealing the vivid liveliness we otherwise miss.

“Eyes that see and ears which hear, the Lord has made them both.
