GALILEO AND COMPANY

Last night in a dream I was at a garage sale. I picked up a long narrow telescope. It was priced at $30. Should I buy it? On waking I knew I must!

The eye is a miraculous organ. With it we can reach across the room and “grab” a chair or coffee pot. A telescope extends our grasp and makes things that seem tiny in the distance to look bigger. The microscope on the other hand makes tiny things seem bigger than they really are.

When the Psalmist says, “O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together” (Ps 34:3 KJV) he is not saying, “Let’s look in the microscope and make our tiny god look big.” He is saying, “Let’s get out our telescopes and understand how gigantic God and His purposes really are.

The Lord Jesus promised us in John 16:13, “when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

For a modest price of spending time in the Word and Spirit our vision of the future can become telescopic! We perceive the greatness of God, the things He has planned for us and how we fit in His universe.

Here is a prayer: “Heavenly Father, we need long distance vision as well as near! Give us Your perspective glass so we may magnify Your greatness!

CONSERVATION AND LIBERALITY

The words “conservative” and “liberal” represent two wonderful virtues.

We see the wisdom of the conservative in Proverbs 21:20; “In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil”.

We see the blessings of liberality in Proverbs 11:2; “A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

The conservationist wants to save and preserve things. That’s definitely a virtue, assuming we are trying to preserve the right things. A liberal is a generous soul who is always sharing with others. That is a fine virtue as well, assuming that we are sharing things of value.

The problem is when either the conservationist or the generous are corrupted. It is nasty when the “conservative” steals to themselves constitutional authority meant to be shared. It is ugly when the “liberal” steals resources to solicit favors.

I see the beaver as blending the best of conservation and liberality. Beaver dams create rich ecosystems. The waters are both saved up as well as passed on. The beaver must have gotten their cue from the Creator who in Christ abundantly saves and generously gives.

We pray for genuine conservatives and liberals to appreciate one another and work meaningfully together! All we ask is that the water not be polluted by self-serving pretenders.

ONE ANOTHERING

Do you practice the “gathered together” passages?

The sheep are gathered in the flock

The bricks are gathered into a building

The children are gathered in the family

The soldiers are gathered into an army

A seductive philosophy of individualism has pillaged us. We separate ourselves, saying to other Lovers of Christ – people with powerful gifts, callings and perspectives, “I don’t need you!”  (1 Cor 12:21)

Be encouraged by some of the dozens of “ONE ANOTHER” passages. Fortify yourself and be cemented into relationship with other believers:

Romans 12:10  Honor one another above yourselves.

Romans 12:16  Live in harmony with one another

Galatians 5:13  Serve one another in love.

Ephesians 4:32  Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Ephesians 5:21  Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Colossians 3:16  Admonish one another with all wisdom

1 Thessalonians 5:11  Encourage one another and build each other up

1 Peter 3:8 Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.

PREPARING THE WAY

I was captivated my last year in High School when a friend told me Jesus was returning. This intelligence changed everything! Our 2000 year old prayer, “Thy kingdom come on earth” is about to be answered. Chills and Thrills bigger than Steven Spielberg or George Lukas could envision! Jesus, bigger than the big screen!

The Greatest Dignitary imaginable is coming. Simeon and Anna were there to greet Him the first time. Wouldn’t you like to welcome Him the second? How might we put up a royal welcome?

Many greet the luminaries with much fanfare as they arrive at airports. If Jesus were arriving by plane in our city what kind of airport would we prepare for him? This is the “Big Idea” behind https://landingstripenterprises.com/

We may be landing strips individually.  Like the Master at His baptism we love to have the Dove land on us. Do you remember how Solomon prayed, “Come to your resting place” and the Spirit of God descended on the temple? Solomon might have agreed; “If you build it He will come.”

We know from Scripture that a landing site has already been determined for Jesus’ arrival on the Mount of Olives. But all the earth is the Lord’s and all the earth should be prepared.

Would we gravel a dirt field and have a hotdog stand for the Redeemer to get a bite? I’d like to do more! What will it take to create a world-wide landing strip for the One who is A to Z?

The pavement on the runway is the fulfilling of Isaiah’s mission, preparing the way of the Lord. As we practice today the Kingdom law of love and teach others the power, wisdom and ethic of the King we are preparing The Landing Strip.

DEALING WITH DISTORTION

One of the most hilarious comic relief lines in Scripture comes from Elihu in the book of Job;

“Be assured that my words are not false;

one perfect in knowledge is with you” (Job 36:1-4.)

Elihu was trying to convince Job that he was a godless, arrogant sinner. If you are not rolling on the floor that line still must be good for an all-day smile.

Having the right religion, philosophy, cultural background or education does not insure that we will have perfect insight. All of us have elements of distortion or un-reality.

You misjudged the distance. You misconstrued the motive. You confused their name. You heard it wrong or believed erroneous “facts.” You arrived at mistaken conclusions.

The human condition is such that we have limited ability to perceive and interpret the universe. We all have acuity issues. We all see in part and we all look through mirrors with wobble.

It might be good for us to acknowledge:

My comprehension is only partial

There’s lots more for me to learn

I appreciate friends who give me better perspective

My trust is not in my wisdom but in my Father’s!

Remember, if you claim flawless perfection in your grasps of reality, you may give others a good giggle.

FRESH STRATEGIES

Battles are won or lost on account of strategies. One of the most dangerous things we can do as believers is to take yesterday’s anointed strategy and try to make it work in today’s battle.

We have probably been involved in groups where we shared how Joshua circled Jericho and we are urged to do the same. Or, Jehoshaphat marched out singing, so that is how we should do our battles as well.

If God is in it please go ahead and reuse a plan of attack. But how far would a football team go if after having good results from one play they then repeated that play ever time? Be careful about reusing yesterday’s strategies rather than God’s fresh, creative solutions.

Consider a few of the battle strategies in scripture:

Stand still and see God’s salvation

Listen for marching in the balsam trees

Set an ambush

Scale the city

Lay a siege

Dig ditches

Crawl up the water tunnel

Use a sling stone

Wasps or hail stones

One sturdy angel

An early morning surprise attack

Call down fire from heaven

A night attack with lamps and horns

Drop a mill stone on the enemy’s head

Take a thousand from each tribe

Hide a dagger in your coat

Samson used a Jaw bone of an ass. Talk about unique weapons, Jesus used a cross to disarm and overcome. Now, the cross might actually be a good strategy to repeat daily!

Let’s seek Father God daily for fresh strategies so we may be assured of fresh victories!

GETTING AIRBORNE

I enjoy flying. I enjoy feeling the acceleration push me back and then down into the seat as the plane powers up. I get a rush from the speed, the perspective, the novelty and the wide open spaces.

It is important for believers to get airborne. In fact the only way to get into the Kingdom is to be born from above (or born again). Flapping our arms by trying to be good boy scouts or girl scouts doesn’t do the job. We need the aeronautic secrets of heaven, hidden in Christ, to overcome the gravity of sin and drag of condemnation.

The older I get the more I see that only the grace of Christ can lift us, not just ultimately but in the day to day. We can take lessons from other saints who have gone aerial. They humbled themselves before God and He took them up!

Ezekiel was caught up by a lock of his hair

John was transported through a door into heaven

Enoch was taken and Elijah was caught up

Paul had unspeakable heavenly experiences

I hope you have had some as well!

I still puzzle over what Paul said in Ephesian 2:6; “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.” More and more I crave third heaven perspectives of reality and believe our Lord wishes to accommodate us.

Fasten your safety belts, please!

LOOKING FORWARD

No matter who you are or what your circumstances you need something to look forward to!

Some are afraid to look forward because they are focusing on the wrong things. Can you picture a small group in the birthing room of a first time mother? Every time she has a contraction they bewail her grief. “Life is full of problems. The pains just keep coming. It is so unfair that we have pain in this world! All we have to look forward to is more pain.”

Are we so focused on anticipating the next pain that we forget we are part of a miracle? Something wonderful is in motion!

There is no denying of corruption, conflict, war and moral decline. While we do our best to be salt and light for the King and His Kingdom, we contend looking forward!

It has been said that the bigger the tribulation the bigger the baby. Aren’t you glad that Jesus gave us a heads up that we should expect tribulations? They are part of the package but only packaging to be discarded and forgotten.

You have a future, something to look forward to!! Father God has tomorrow well in hand. Don’t be lectured to by circumstances or indoctrinated by the cynics.

In spite of labor pains, the future is all smiles and laughter! Heaven is bulging, crowning, with the advent of the King. Is that the water breaking? We are about to have A Baby!

Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed” (1 Peter 1:13 NIV).

PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR DREAMS!

A man named Joseph was the big dreamer in the Old Testament. A man named Joseph was the big dreamer in the New Testament. The name Joseph means, “God shall add.”

Would you like to have good things added to your life? Follow the example of the two Josephs. Pay attention to your night dreams! Pray for wisdom to understand them. Pray for insight and courage to know how to respond to them.

One of the most precious aspects of my relationship with Father God is how He speaks to me in dreams. I love the insights, corrections, warnings, affirmations and even rebukes that come to me in dreams. Many of us are so busy and distracted during the daylight that Father needs to quite us with sleep to get his message though.

Dreams guide us. I had a number of dreams while out west that we would be moving to Tennessee. Sure enough!

Dreams warn us. I dreamed that a friend of mine was shot in the stomach mortally. I was also wounded. That day I learned this man’s daughter had a surprise, life threatening hemorrhage in her uterus. My spirit was prepared to pray and the Lord wonderfully saved her.

I have been rebuked in dreams dozens of times for misjudging people, unbelief and for hesitation to act. I am so thankful that He loves me enough to show me where I need correction!

I have been given wisdom for decisions in dreams and insight for relating to certain people. On occasions I have been able to talk to presidents, well known Christian leaders and others. Each time there is an education.

Occasionally I go back and look at dreams I’ve had four, twelve or twenty-five years past. I record my dreams on a word processor so I can search them at will. I am always appreciative of new revelations as I review them.

Friend, I encourage you to do what I do. Before I go to sleep I always make sure I have paper and pen handy to write on at the head of my bed. Frequently I pray this prayer; “Lord, in the night with dreams and in the day with visions.” That prayer has been answered a thousand times.” When you wake be still and let your mind recall your dreams. Be expectant and persistent.

In the morning I take my scratchy, often illegible notes and write the dreams on the computer. I often get interpretations and applications as I do. Some dreams may take seven or twenty years to get a grip on. It’s great to have dreams written down so I can remember them, give thanks, gain confidence and kingdom insight for myself and others.

“For He gives to His beloved even in his sleep” (Ps 127:2 NAS).

“God shall add!”

SEA SHELLS ON MOUNTAINS

LISTEN TO THIS BLOG HERE!

In the summer of 1985 I had a real adventure. I was able to join Dr. Jim Davies and his wife Martha on a climb of Mount Ararat in Eastern Turkey in search of Noah’s ark. How can I share the power of that experience?

No, we did not find Noah’s ark but we got to climb a mountain bigger than you can probably imagine, appreciate the ancient history of a land cleansed by water, have great cultural experiences and get snowed on in August. We even encountered Kurdish terrorist who courteously did not shoot us but who relieved us of our possessions, including that nice SLR camera you see on my neck.

One of our delightful surprises was gathering sea shells around the base of the mountain. There were thousands. We hit the jack pot! Unfortunately the Turkish government doesn’t want them taken.

Sea shells on mountains. Don’t you think that is fascinating? You may go to Mount Everest and find fossilized sea creatures. Those mountains once were sea floors. When the earth went through the contortions of the flood the plates flexed like crazy. The waters receded as ocean trenches made divots downward and a few mountains popped up.

You will never witness a possum fossilizing by the side of the road. They simply rot. Fossils are always formed in water-laid sediment and found in sedimentary rock around the planet. The recipe to create fossils includes pressure, heat, minerals in soil and moisture to carry the minerals into the fossil victim.

If you have never studied the evidence for a world-wide flood you deserve an education. It is eerie fascinating!

God kept His word by sending a catastrophic flood to destroy the earth and He kept His word to preserve Noah and his family. Actually there are quite a few more promises His is about to fulfill! That’s why I want to stick really close to the Lord Jesus!

“By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith” (Heb. 11:7).
